I agree that Judges see a lot more irises (if you
judge shows and visit other AIS members' gardens).
Some Judges are not active anymore and I am not clear
on whether they vote the Awards ballot(s). However,
being a Judge doesn't endow me or anyone else with
'special 
evaluation powers'. This attitude is a disservice to
thoughtful AIS members who vote the AIS Tall Bearded
Popularity Poll that is (grandly) called 'The
Symposium'. ;-)

*** Ah - wasn't this a stumbling block with some on
this forum - that the 'Poll' had much the same TB
irises year after year? More than one referred to
second and third-class irises if memory serves me. (I
personally didn't refer to the TB Poll in that manner)

The other stumbling block was the fact that it was not
representative of the World of Irises being limited to
one class only. (I did/do agree with that)

*** Me either. However, only some of the AIS TB Poll
is taken from the recent Awards' winners....and of
course, only TBs. (she hastens to add :-)

If only all Judges were assets to their regions. I
think AIS has adequate qualifying standards for judges
but there are other (maybe) more compelling things to
look at for continuing tenure. Another subject
altogether for another time, perhaps.

Don't take it personal Gerry...you are in a difficult
position and sooo visible.
