Personally, I happen to agree with a regional poll and write-ins. There
are lots of iris that grow really well, and I like for whatever reason,
that I (as a judge) would never vote an award for. It sounds like a lot
of others do too.
I think the issue is not so much what we want the symposium to be as
*how to get it done*. (IMHO)
I think, at the least, every region would have to have a volunteer to
tabulate the region votes. (One person could never do it in a reasonable
amount of time - at least if they had any sort of other life). So how is
this accomplished?
Maybe we just publish a request for volunteers. Any region that doesn't
provide a volunteer, doesn't get a symposium tally. Individual regional
tallys could be published in the regional bulletins and the all tallys
published in the AIS bulletin
Make the RVPs responsible?? You would have to get their buy-in for
that. The AIS Board can't just assign duties to RVPs, especially since
they already have a lot to do.
What other realistic suggestions do you all have? It is time to step up
to the keyboard (so to speak). You want something, figure out how to get
it done.
