I don't usually get involoved with controversial subjects, but I do put in my vote right here for things, already mentioned, that I think would improve the AIS Symposium.

First: Change the name. It should be called a popularity pole.

Second: Keep the rules for qualifying irises as they are. Political primaries limit canidates to make the final vote more possible. If everyone voted for his best friend, choas would result. It's the same if we each vote for favorite irises unknown to the general population of iris growers.

Third: Growers of other classes of irises have a legitimate complaint that their voices are not heard. Therefore those other classes, Medians, Louisianna, Japonese, Siberian, etc. should have their own popularity poles.

Fourth: Have a Hall of Fame for those great irises that have been on the popularity pole for a certain number of years. (10 - 15) Then take them off the pole to make room for newer ones.

Fifth: Do not have writein votes. See No. 2 above. I have written in my personal favorites in previous years and accomplished nothing but asuaging my vanity and making the tabulation harder for someone else.

There: That's my two cents worth.
