In the past I had borer problems. Four years ago I sprayed Cygon once. Since I do a super clean up of all dead material in the iris beds, fall and spring. Bleach bath will not kill them. If you are going to dig anyway, remove all that you can find from the rhizomes. There will be damage on the ones that have borers in them.
Stir the dirt in the beds looking for reddish brown pupa. Remove all dead leaves now and in the fall. No spray will kill them now. Unless the borers are realy thick the iris can take some borer damage. Get rid of the dead leaves some where else.
Since doing the clean ups I have not seen borers or any damage from them

OK OK, I never read the mail concerning borers. In my 51 years I never saw
one until today. I was surprised to find empty shells of what was a rhizome.
I know about the bleach bath 10 parts water to 1 part bleach. The question
should I remove the soil and replace with new or treat the soil. I try to do
everything organically and would prefer and organic solution, but when it
comes to irises I would use chemicals.
What say you members, replace the soil or treat the soil and with what?
Thanks
Bill
