Hi Arnold-
I have never ordered from Riverview so cannot comment. I'm fully
aware of the climatic conditions in both S. Dakota and Idaho....I was
bred/born/raised in central Montana...and well remember the winter of 52 Deg.
below zero, and the summer we planted 200 apple trees, carried water every
day to each, and 2 survived the parched, cracked earth.
I am not adverse to smaller rhizomes...but pieces the size of a dried
pea??? And, three I ordered were out of stock...for which I received no
refund; 3 `gifts' were included (I think I paid for them anyway...???) My
order was over $100. I wrote to Fox's before I said anything to anyone - and
received no reply. At the top of the invoice it says "We are trying to
reduce our inventory as we are thinking of moving soon".
I try to live by "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you",
and if I feel something is a `throw-away' item I certainly wouldn't accept
payment for it. I wish them the best of luck; unfortunately for me, they
list many older iris in which I was interested.
When you speak of "West Coast iris", I am not included, as I am in the
High Desert of Oregon, East of the Cascades...where growing just about
anything other than Juniper trees, Juniper shrubs and sage brush is an
environmental challenge.
