Hi Arnold:
Sorta depends upon what area of the bible belt one lives in. . in the
area in AR where I lived, they were rarely called "naked ladies" except by
those who were move-ins from other states. . the churchy bunch called them
Resurrection lilies or Surprise lilies. My former mother-in-law, a devout
card-carrying, bible toting church goer would choke before she'd call them
Naked ladies. . .and she had a yard full of 'em. She also never paid anyone
a compliment. . .said it makes a person "Prideful" . . what ever the sam
hill THAT means!!

As for the "Naked Ladies", I'd never heard that expression for what I always
knew as Hardy Amaryllis, or Lycoris squamigera, till one of our iris club
members used that name. Others do use the term, "Resurrection Lilies", and
I've also seen them in catalogs as "Magic Lilies."
