It continues to strike me as strange that in this era of "political
correctness" gone mad, when people are supposed to be sensitive to the
feelings of every conceivable group of individuals which can be
identified, that conventional Christians remain a group that is
seemingly exempt from this consideration. That particular group is
stereotyped and disparaged publicly all the time with impunity.
Doris, even though I am not angry about your characterization, I would
urge you to grant to those of us who are quite proud to be "Bible-toting
church-goers" the same respect and sensitivity that you undoubtedly show
other groups. Some Christians would be truly hurt and offended by the
implications of your wording. Though I have no idea which cards your
mother-in-law was carrying, it was not the Bible she toted, that made
her squeamish about "nakedness". I am part of a "churchy bunch" and I
have "naked ladies" in my yard. Quite frankly, I very much like naked
ladies, flowers and otherwise. ;-) (Well, not all....there are *some*
ladies which look much better clothed!) My Bible does not condemn such
an attitude - in fact, it contains an entire book appreciating and
extolling the virtues of the nakedness of one's beloved.
BTW, though I disagree with your former mother-in-law that compliments
from others cause it, I think I can define being "prideful" for you. It
means that a person lacks humility, they are puffed-up with an inflated
sense of their own value and importance in relation to others, and also
perhaps failing to recognize their relative standing as a creature of
God upon whom they are actually totally dependent.
Doris, please understand that this message is not intended as an attack
on you or anyone else. I know from your previous posts and messages that
you are a person of good will with a good sense of humor and any offense
which was taken by anyone was not intended by you. I want to acknowledge
that so everyone will know that this is not a flame or an attack of any
kind. I have posted it publicly, though, just as a reminder to others
that Christians are entitled to the same degree of respect and
consideration that is accorded others in our socirty. To grant that to
them, will be a blessing to those Chrstians, a blessing to our society,
and ultimately, a blessing to you. Trust me! It's a promise! :-)
