I also have an I. pallida cultivar, 1st season to flower, growing in pots,
which I noticed for a very brief time this spring had a faint expression
of purple on the margins of the base of the leaves. Not visible unless
you looked really close. This was quite a surprise to me.
I've also noticed a tiny bit of purple on the spathes of some I. pallida
clones (but mostly I can't remember for sure which ones - need to take
notes - seems like cengialtii clones all three had it?). Ironically, the
clone with purple on the leaves had none on the spathes. Actually
'Kupari' - I'm pretty sure - had a bit of purple on the spathes before
they went papery, but there wasn't a trace on the foliage (I made it a
point to look).
The clone that had a bit of purple at the base came with no name; it came
from a garden in Dallas via Cindy Rivera. As I recall, It looked more
than a lot like 'Dalmatica' in flower, but had good pollen (seems
'Dalmatica' doesn't make pollen), and flowered just a tad earlier (but my
plants were in pots, so maybe bloom time is the same?). It might be
'Argentea'????
By the way, I have two almost ripe pods on 'Kupari', both pollinated with
pollen from an unnamed very fragrant "blue" smallish pallida. Hoping for
some highly fragrant whites to work with, but that may not happen till
later generations.
