Re: AIS: AIS Membership Survey

Bob,

When you are ready to release the results, if you send me a copy I will see to getting it put up on the AIS Information Central page under Member Services on the AIUS website and ask the webmaster to highlight on the Home page that the survey results are available.

Report on Membership Survey;

I am sending this out to Iris Talk because I want to dispel an idea that has appeared on the survey forms.

Jeanne Clay Plank; the president of AIS asked me to conduct this membership survey at the convention here in St Louis. She also wished to get input from affiliates so that it would not just reflect a favorable group of conventioneers. I suppose I got the job because I have been a critic who does not restrain myself from voicing my opinions directly to her and would be an honest broker.

The thought that I wish to dispel is that the survey is over. I promised that I would reply with a complete report on the convention survey by October prior to the November board meeting. But I realize that many affiliates will not fill out the survey until this fall when they have meetings or at regional fall meetings. This means that these results will not be processed totally until the end of the year. The convention results I already have in a spread sheet and I am in the process of typing in addendums to each question providing all the comments that were written in. I will have this available for the fall board meeting. Over two hundred convention goers responded and this is no small task.

So far 90 people, who were not at convention, have sent back the survey by mail. I will include these and as many as possible of future responses in a secondary report to the board for November, but as I have already indicated the final report will be from surveys received this year until January, and submitted to the board by the Spring board meeting. I fully expect that another one hundred members will respond. If you have not had an opportunity to respond please feel free to ask for a copy to reproduce and take to your local meeting. I am worried that internet connected members will have a dominating presence so if you need a copy so that you can reply please try to involve other members of your group who may not have internet access also.

At some point I will have it in a file that I can send to anyone who wishes to see my report. I am a firm believer in transparency. Although I may not agree with all the outcomes I will report them as received because this is too important to let my personal opinions bias any results. If we are to increase membership we must understand what our members are thinking.

So when your club or region asked for you to fill out this survey please feel free to make comments that will aid in understanding your answers. The questions are very general. Maybe at the next convention we will have improved on how we ask them. But be assured that I am ding my best to pass on your opinions. And the myth I wish to dispel is that it is too late to add your thoughts.
