Cult. Digging Iris


I feel very secure about when to dig iris.  My question is how long 
can iris safely stay out of the ground before replanting?  It takes
some time to dig, wash, dry, label, and price rhizomes for our local
society's rhizome sale.  I don't want to short change our customers
with less than adequate rhizomes.  I have a decent amount of room
in my garage to spread them out after they have been cleaned.  It 
is not exactlly cool in the garage, but it is airy and dry.

Any advice on this would be helpful.
