Marilyn,
Sounds like you are doing everything ok. I would be careful with small
(tiny) rhizomes, consider potting them. Many iris societies sell their
iris potted.
I once had a customer who was given her order in July and intended to
plant in September. She forgot and did not plant her iris until the
"next" September. Over a year later! She swears they all lived and
bloomed the next spring.
