Re: aphids

Sheryl

If your friend has access to water, the best cure for aphids is to hose
the irises down with a fine, forceful, spay of water. No chemicals
needed. I have used this on tomatoes against aphids and white fly with
great success. I have also found that it works wonders with lily leaf
beatle, which has become a major pest in the Ottawa region over the last
couple of years. In this case, I hose the plants from below and this
washes of sufficient adults, eggs, and larvae that leaf damage is
reduced to a minimum. The alternative was to pick of the adults and
larvae each evening, which is quite a chore and also very messy as the
larvae poop onto the own backs!
