I used Preen in my iris bed this year. I had such a weedy bed that it
couldn't really solve every problem, but it did appear to at least weaken
the weeds and grass enough that they were pretty easy to pull! And now
that I've done some serious digging, the Preen seems to control it fairly
well.
My iris were newly planted this spring (and I've learned some nice lessons
on preparing a new section of lawn as a flower bed!), so I didn't have any
blooms, but all the plants look good and healthy, and I haven't noticed any
problems from it. I haven't tried hybridizing or planting any seedlings,
so I'm not sure how well the babies would take to it, but my big old fat
rhizomes didn't seem to mind.

After today's rain, my (surprisingly pretty) gladiolas are nicely
decorating long strips of the lawn.....
