Hello! I have the Check Lists up to 1979 so can't help w/SWEET MUSETTE,
but SPARTAN I can since it's a 1972 Schreiners' iris.
SPARTAN's parents were a seedling X FIREBALL.
FIREBALL: Schreiners 1967. Standards glossy rich copper-red; falls
slightly deeper shade; definite red progression. HM 1968. GYPSY JEWELS X
FIRE MAGIC.
GYPSY JEWELS: Schreiners 1963. Ruby to garnet red self; hint of
chocolate; bronzed gold beard. HM 1964, AM 1966; Cook-Lapham 1966.
CALDRON X sdlg.
FIRE MAGIC: Schreiners 1962. Coppery red bitone; yellow-orange beard. HM
1963. Sdlg. X TRIM
CALDRON: Robt. Schreiner 1957. Vivid coppery-red self. No awards, but an
important breeder for the Schreiner red line, along w/TRIM. (ETHIOP
QUEEN x RANGER) X (GARDEN GLORY x CORDOVAN). (Why no awards??!)
TRIM: Wm. McKee 1956. Red self. (PEQUOT x (LIGHTS ON x NOONTIDE)) X
(REDWYNE x MOONTIDE).
You get the idea: lots and lots of red irises! When you get the check
lists you can look up the great-greats yourself. I think some of them
are reds and some aren't.
Now someone w/the 1989 Checklist can look up Sweet Musette for you!
Have fun w/your seedlings!
