Rusty, ...I also grow crepe myrtles, I have very large ones, ...My white one
is the most hardy and grows the tallest. It gets about 15 feet tall, even
when it freezes back to the ground, which it does every 3 or 4 years, My
purple one is the smallest. It is only about 4 1/2 feet tall. It never
freezes back, but it doesn't grow much either. But my favorite is the flame
crepe myrtle. It gets about 6 - 7 feet tall, and some years, looses a few
stalks, but it blooms continuously for about a month, and is a solid mass of
bright dark-pink blooms. It is a sight to see!!!!!!!! Other than my iris, the
flame crepe myrtle is my favorite plant...........Annette Milch from
Lexington, KY (zone 5/6)......One other thing, the crepe myrtles are the last
thing in the spring to bud out, so don't think you have lost yours next
spring when everything else has leaves and your crepe myrtle is just sitting
there. Give it time and it will please you. DO Mulch it heavily over
winter,about 10 to 12 inches.
