I received some Spuria iris from a good friend of my in Texas while I was
living in LaBelle, Florida. Knowing I was anticipating a move sometime in
the future I potted them up. I lost a couple but most survived.
You are about 6 hours further north than I was so yours will do far better
than mine and I was doing ok! Just plant them in a good amended sand
(Florida soil) with organic matter and they will do fine. Not all cultivars
are equal as some like to grow in the summer and some don't, because of the
different species used in the background. But if you are interested in
Spuria you will have to do some testing to find out which ones will grow for
you. These are a very beautiful and charming iris and any effort is worth
it.
I am living in Lake Charles, Louisiana now and if you look at a national map
we are on about the same lattitude in hot humid climates with almost daily
afternoon showers. I have my Spurias so we can compare notes as time passes!
