My favorite Japanese iris is RASPBERRY GEM (Anna Mae Miller, 1988) and I
always raved about it every year on the iris-l. I personally think it is
spectacular. It is a late bloomer here in Zone 3 - registered as M-L.
Two years ago, it was still blooming on Labor Day. :)
The Japanese irises started blooming yesterday here with SAPPHIRE STAR
the first (3 fall) and MOUNTAIN GROTTO and DIRIGO DEBUTANTE opening
today. DIRIGO D. was just received in May so it may be a little off in
the bloom season. John White sent it from Maine after I bid on it at the
Japanese Symposium in Toronto last fall.
Some hostas are in full bloom and only MESA PEARL and ESTHER C.D.M. are
still in bloom - last Siberians. :(
Cheers,
Ellen
