List specalization is a natural product of increased traffic in cyberspace. I
suspect that at some point in recent histroy, there were only enough individuals
on line to support a general gardening discussion group. Imagine if the iris
list
posts were all under the umbrella of a general gardening list now. It would
take
all day to find the items which are of interest.
Iris-L and, now, iris talk has a fair amount of traffic. Of the half-dozen
lists
to which I subscribe, this one has the largest number of posts every day. While
it is up to the list owner to frame the scope of the discussion, I do not think
that another iris list which focuses on some subset of the broader topic of iris
is unreasonable or counterproductive. Those who are paranoid that they will
miss
something would simply subscribe to both. Those who have another life and must
limit the amount of time they devote to internet lists may want to only
subscribe
to one or the other. The options increase and nothing is lost.
