Japanese Iris ? help

I finally did it.  I was in the Capitol Nursery in Sacramento and they had a large number of Japanese Iris for sale.  I picked out the only one I could find with a descriptive picture tag.  It was marked Iris Kaempferi.  There are 9 fans in the small gallon container.  They look very healthy.  I visited the Archives on Japanese as well as some of the msgs that I had printed out but did not find my answer.  Should these be divided or do they like to be crowded as they are now.  I think I want to keep them in  containers.  Do I just need to put them as one plant in a larger container.  Right now they are sitting in a large tub of water waiting for me to figure out what to do.
I don't have anyone in this area that has grown Japanese Iris so I am completely on my own.  I would appreciate any advice that you can give me.  I wanted to branch out into some other species but only have experience with TB and Dwarfs.
