Hi Zelma:
CONGRATULATIONS on trying Japanese iris (iris ensata... kaempferi is no longer
used). I personally find them to be a most exotic iris, and probably my very
favorite.
This is what I'd do... although this is strictly based on logic, not
experience.... if your iris seems crowded in the pot it's in, I'd move it to a
slightly larger size (using top soil and peat moss in the new soil). I would
not divide it now. I would keep it evenly moist.... sitting in the tub of
water is great.... and very early next spring, I would tackle the dividing job
- when your iris seems to be in vigorous growth.
