Hi Roger
Welcome!.
You are not the only one to have problems with the birds being curious.
Our local iris society has several beds at the largest public park in our
area. When this garden was a new site the birds were constantly pulling signs
and rhizomes for weeks, until the iris grow long enough roots to defend
themselves. And after a while then shiny markers lost their glitter and so
the birds lost their curiousity.
Looking forward to hearing more from you every once in a while. I
beleive your climate and the climate in this part of Washington State are very
similar.
Long gray winter days , not much moisture in the summer. Moderate temps.
I live about 2 miles from Puget Sound. We are able to grow many variety of
iris because of the climate.
