I am one iris grower being dragged kicking and screaming into the
golden years, but I question Mike when he talks of the 'carefree habits
and gardenability' of the daylily. This may be so up to a point....and
that point comes at digging time. After all these years, I have not been
able to remove a start for somebody without digging up the entire clump
and literally mutilating it trying to get that 'start' for somebody.

During our string of 104o days earlier this month the irises fared
much better than the daylilies, which literally thinned themselves out
from the heat and lack of rainfall. I am glad I won't have to do a
thinning chore on them when it finally cools off, so there is one blessing
from this heat spell after all.
