Cult:Trimming Roots

From: "Steven & Sharlyn Rocha" <srocha@pacbell.net>

Hello Everyone,
Last year at planting time I cut off every root off of every iris I
planted. I heard from 3 different people who plant their irises this way and
I figured if it works for them I might as well try it.
It is so much easier to plant them this way. Just prepare the soil the
way you normally would then water as if they were already planted. Either
set the rhz where you want it, or drop it into place. I like dropping them
because you don't have to bend over as much, especially if you have a lot of
rhz to plant. Then step on them to push them into the ground. Bingo your rhz
are planted at the perfect depth and there are no air pockets that might dry
out some of the roots as they start to grow. You might have to add more
water if it's really hot and the ground starts to dry before you get the
area your working in planted. That's what I did last year and will continue
to do from now on.
A special thanks to those people who told me about this wonderful
method last year.
