Park,
You don't say where you live, but down here in Texas, we divide when the
weather cools a bit in early fall. We discard the old rhizomes that have
bloomed and have no new increases on them. Cut the others apart with a
sharp knife, clean them, lay them out
in the sun until the cut surface is no longer wet looking but like dry skin.
Trim the leaves off to about 1/2 to 2/3 their original length and then
replant in soil that has had some compost spaded into it, or if you have lots
of bed space, a new area.
