A decade or so ago Wayside Gardens released a catalog in which they were
promoting "American Irises," which turned out to be Louisiana irises. A
near-revolt on the part of the Society for Louisiana Irises and others
forced the nursery to drop their "creative" terminology.
I have no idea if this is what generated this thread of postings...but maybe.
