I agree with this recommendation as a good first book for beginners. All you
need to know to get started, and great photos, which are often worth a
thousand words!
And I'd note that ripply leaves are generally not much to worry about unless
they have gotten hung up in emerging and water collects in leaf pockets or
something. You don't want that, so just spread the leaves aside and see if
you can free them.
