HYB: strain on first year transplants?

Is it a bad idea to let first year transplants form pods? Is it recommended to NOT cross the first year in order to let the plants increase and become more vigorous first?
Does pod formation put a strain on the new divisions and cause them to produce less new offshoots?

Where I seem to have more Bee Pods this year than usual, or is it just "senior moments" where I forgot to tag and take notes on some of the crosses I made?
