I had an excellent bloom season; about 90 - 95% of my iris bloomed this
year, including a lot of new ones. We had very little rain (I watered
plenty), and one period of 1 - 2 weeks straight of overnight freezes (around
February?) (unusual in this part of California).
Interestingly, most of my Schreiner blues (blue selfs only; Schreiner
neglectas and dark purples were better than usual) did not bloom this
spring, although this is not usually the case. A huge planting of Jazz Me
Blue had 0 stalks. 0 from Coastal Mist, Honky Tonk Blues, Memphis Blues,
and Cascade Springs. 1 poor stalk each from Rippling River and Yaquina
Blue, and 2 from Blue Suede Shoes. All the above plants looked fine; only
Memphis Blues was a single rhizome.
Interesting "coincidence". Must be something in the genes not liking the
weather. I would think Oregon iris would like the freeze, though.
