Re: HIST: SUTTER'S GOLD

I've just posted a photo to iris-photos of an oldie found at an old
abandoned junkyard when we first moved out here. Someone had evidently run
out of people to give starts to and dumped a box of the rhizomes. The piece
I took home was balanced on top of an old piece of metal about 2" from the
ground. Nevertheless, it had pushed roots into the soil below and was
blooming.... in the middle of the woods. My kind of iris.

I've held onto it because it's one of the few irises that never misses a
beat. Display is always perfect even in the wildest years and it rarely
shows any leaf spot. It's a real longshot but your description seems to fit
this old thing to a "T".
