Re: Re: PCN Len's I. Missouriensis

I have I. missouriensis that I grew from seeds 4-5 years ago, seeds that were sent me by a friend in Colorado, and I think he collected the seeds in the wild. The plants I kept--gave several away--have been blooming a couple years now, and they do wonderfully in a raised bed of Iowa black dirt that was brought in and laid 6-8" deep over a hard, rocky, gravelly layer. I water once or twice in the summer if things get really dry, but otherwise I pretty much leave them alone. They seem to be thriving on this benign neglect. From what several of you report, I conclude that when I have to divide the clump, I'd better warn recipients of part of it that they should not expect bloom for a couple years.
