RE: COMP: subject tags

I am emerging from my cave of lurkdom to agree with Walter, especially with the above
sentence. However, there is no subject tag line for several things that are very much
used topics on this forum. Obviously, there cannot be a tag for everything that is
discussed. But really, how about WEATHER as a tag? Living in Zone 3, that is a big issue
for several of us.

How much do we see: IRC or BULB or AD? These 'guys' should be relegated to the seldom
used OT - CHAT rather than Zone 3 which is supposed to be tagged: OT - CHAT.

Moving on:

I voted no and for reasons not appropriate to rehash. The archives have been of little
use to me when I have tried to look a subject up, btw. But, I also own and oversee two
Yahoogroups list and use the same service provided as iris-talk. I prefer the Yahoogroups
archives - I know, I know one has to have a general idea of the time the thread was
posted.

BUT folks here, and on the lists I manage, keep asking the same questions to the list
anyway especially the newbies and that is the way of mailing lists.

(My lists total about a little less than 300 and I know that is a different sort of ball
game than iris-talk which is almost too large to keep up with).

I remember when I was chastised for not using the correct subject line on iris-talk (when
I tried very diligently to do so) and the owner later apologized to me and said he meant
the post to go to an entirely different person, etc. Too little, too late - damage was
done. So I understand the feelings of those that find it almost intimidating to post
feeling that a blooper might result.

I thought that the raison d'etre of the subject tags was for those that use filters for
incoming mail not the archives but I stand corrected on that point.

Did it and always have and the next line is apropos:

Including the owner and others who furnish a goodly number of the publicly posted
questions and replies.

*I would appreciate it if the bows and arrows AND the owner's cheerleading section
doesn't clog up the list.*

We know John does a good job (no one is perfect as Walter said) and I know that it is a
thankless job I do it, too. However, of all the 12 garden lists I subscribe to, this is
the only one that requires subject tags - two are larger than this list and one has more
messages.

This post is not to cast aspersions on anybody's opinion and especially Walter who is a
personal friend and who knows my/these opinions well. :-)

Ellen (hope I don't get booted off the list again for posting....if I do, at least I am
used to it ;-)
