Of course slip-ups are possible, and of course, all of us forget at times to change the subject tag to match our message, and of course everyone has to learn how to manage it, and of course it's easy to make mistakes when we first get started on iris-talk. That's not the point. But just come from a long trip and find 200 messages on your e-mail, and then you realize how valuable correct subject tags can be. I can easily delete things with which I'm not concerned, though they're worthwhile enough to the sender and others interested, and save lots of time. And sometimes it's hard to decide what the proper subject tag should be, so you do the best you can. But any organization has to have some kind of rules by which to function, or everything becomes pure chaos, however well-intentioned the participants are. If you play baseball you have to touch the bases when you run; intending to do so or just coming close won't do. In the same way, a list as large as iris-talk has to have some ground rules; let's do our best to play by them. John has them very clearly laid out.
Arnold (who found that after mastering some basic computer technique and learning how to do e-mail, the iris-talk rules were a snap because they were all in English.)
