That's what I thought, John. Although I try to use appropriate subject
tags when I post, I have never understood their necessity in terms of
searching the archives. In fact, I don't understand their necessity at
all IF folks will take the time to check their subject lines and make
sure they accurately reflect the subject of their email. For the sake of
the people who screen their iris-talk messages and open only those of
specific interest to them, accurate subject lines are a matter of both
necessity and courtesy - but I still don't understand the function of the
actual tags.
Here's something else I don't understand - threading. If I reply to a
post but change the subject line to more accurately reflect the content
of my reply, will it be acknowledged and organized within the Mallorn
archives as part of the original thread, or will it be kicked into a new
thread based on the change in subject line? Sometimes when I search the
Mallorn archives and get engrossed in a particular thread, I will find
myself deadended in mid-thread while following individual messages when
the search results themselves clearly indicated there was more to read.
How exactly does Mallorn interpret and organize threads?
All too techy for me. I'm gonna go grab my Mantis and start wholesale
weed destruction.
