Rebloomers from G. Percy Brown were programmed to rebloom two or three months
after spring bloom. Having been born in MA, they started to rebloom in the
southern tier of states in July and August, when the heat is at its most
intense. Even though some had such names as FALL PRIMROSE and FALL FANTASY,
they insisted on reblooming at the wrong time of the year and were summarily
cooked by a summer sun or exhibited twisted stalks with distorted flowers. It was as if Brown cultivars had built-in alarm clocks to wake them up and rebloom
two to three months after spring bloom no matter what type of climate they
were transplanted to. I am not familiar with modern cultivars that have
such alarm clocks. So many 'rebloomers' overbloom in the fall, leaving
nothing for the next spring, so they really aren't rebloomers. They are
fall blooming only.
