Linda,

I have never been able to tell "air" pods from regular pods until I pop them
open.

The seed you've exposed . . . are they full size and plump? How long since
you made the cross? You did write it down? <g> Unless it's a "throw away"
cross I'd dry the seed and plant them. May not come up, but that's the only
way to tell---in my experience. (so long as they are round and plump . . .
or oblong and plump . . . squished and plump . . . you get the idea?)

Oh, yes. Stalks with pods don't usually die off UNLESS they are rotting--at
the base or elsewhere. Wet weather can do this. Don't think I've lost a
"podded" stalk since the early 90's. There was a famous spring/summer back
there when EVERYTHING rotted. Must have had 20 to 30 podded stalks sticking
in the ground, in vases, window sills, you name it.
