Remember, I'm lazy. I kept up with weather info before I got that way. Then
started to ask myself, why? Regardless of what the weather is doing I'm still
going to smear the pollen. Within 5 days of smearing the pollen, we know if
it took. If it took/did not take we can check online weather to examine the
details for the day we pollinated if we wish to satisfy our curiosity. I
start each year with a day planner with the intent of note keeping each day.
I even manage to keep some pretty good notes of relevant stuff. Saves time
though not to bother with writing stuff that is already written somewhere
else so I no longer spend time keeping weather records. I once kept judicious
records of how many crosses I made with which pollen on which cultivar.
Again, I asked myself why? What question was I tryin' to answer with this
statistic? Well, what I really wanted to know was the percentage of pollen
strikes overall, and the percentage of pollen strikes on a specific cultivar
sometimes. Since I was already tagging each bloom (I like to make several
different crosses with each cultivar) It was only necessary to keep up with
the number of tags I used. And sometimes (when curious) count the tags
hanging on a specific cultivar. Once I collect pods (and its tag) the
statistics all fall in place. Sometimes have attempt pollinating 200 iris
blooms in a day. Sometimes have attempted pollinating 600 daylily blooms in a
day. Been gettin' slower this year though. Still I keep a pollen log but am
starting to ask why?

Smiles and ashamed to divulge the number of iris pollen strikes this year,
