Chris,
I grow about a dozen Space Agers, and most of them have been shy about
strutting their stuff for me. One of them, TIME TRAVELER (Darlene Pinegar,
1993) was bred here in Utah. It is fairly reliable about producing its
appendages. All the others originated in milder climate zones (one from
Oregon, one from Texas, and the rest from California). The only one that is
totally consistent with its appendages is SNOW SPOON (Hager, 1982).
THORNBIRD and UNICORN are also pretty good. CONJURATION, on the other hand,
almost never has any projections. Of the ones you mentioned, the only one I
grow is HOOKEM HORNS, which is a polled bull on this ranch. Maybe there is
a need for breeding cold climate Space Agers, just as there is for cold
climate rebloomers.
