CULT: Yearly cutting back

Pam,

You did not say where you are, which may make some difference in timing
for fertilization. Do not cut back the fans. They feed the new rhizomes
that are forming for next years bloom. Cut or break off the flower
stalks. Feed in the spring with a balanced fertilizer like 10-10-10.
Feed in the fall with 0-10-10. As the individual leaves of the fans die
off. Remove them.

The only time you would cut back the fans is if you are in a very cold
area that gets a lot of snow. Then you could trim them back to 6 inches
after the first hard frost.

Where do you live (approx or USDA zone)?
