Black plastic produces higher temperatures (killing capacity). Most moss
growth is generally a sign of a poor nutrient soil. Moss (if memory serves
comes in over 200 varieties) will probably be eliminated with the addition of
your new (better soil). If it continues to be a problem, it once succumbed
here to a modest top dressing of ammonium nitrate when I was trying to
increase its growth as a weed barrier.
