I sure could use some help. I am rather new to the iris world.
I live in northern California, in the San Francisco Bay area, with a clay
soil which I have improved. Some of my beds are above ground and some are
terraced beds with the iris at ground level. Hovever, I am not sure I have
the best soil for the different iris. And I am not sure which fertilizer is
best to use and when to use it. I have TBs, Louisiana,
Spuria, Pacifica, and Dwarf bearded iris. Is it correct that Louisiana,
Pacificas and spurias prefer acid soil? what is the best pre bloom
nutrition to add for the tb's? for the louisiana? spuria? pacificas? and
dwarfs? What is the best fertizier for after bloom use (now) for each?
Shall I use the azalea/rhododendrum acidic fertilizer for Pacificas and for
Louisianas and Sprurias? Is it just as good to use a general 10-10-10 for
all plants at this time of year and a low nitrogen fertilizer for pre-bloom
supplement? I sure would appreciate some further advise. And thank John
Jones for his suggestion that a balanced 10-10-10 is fine for all plants, but
I am still a little unclear about ideal soil ph and whether all iris thrive
on the same fertilizer.
