blooming now in southwest Ohio

After such a drawn-out bearded season, it was surprising to see
the Siberians come and go at normal speed. The best were my
vigorous ones, I. siberica 'Nana Alba', Cleve Dodge, Shaker's
Prayer, Esther C.D.M., and Reprise. Lavender Stipples did very
well as a first-year planting and is the only one still in bloom.

I was also impressed with what I. lactea 'Illini Fountain',
I. carthaliniae, and Belise (SPU) did their first year--trying new
things can definitely pay off.

JIs Katy Mendez and Ryuko Hirao are now in full bloom, and
many others have promising buds. TB Juris Prudence hangs
in there too, over a month now, which is pretty good for TBs here.
I think I'll probably remember this year most for some of the
MTBs, though--I counted 23 blooms on one stalk of Lucky Charm,
and lots of stalks. It's my best candidate for Energizer Bunny
stand-in this year.
