another burst after a post-bloom dormancy period. I suspect this prevents =
rhizome increase from competing with seed formation -- these are both =
methods of continuing survival and you wouldn't want them competing with =
each other.

Gosh, I can not remember this.... right now some of my rhizomes have new
fans forming, others look pathetic. Are in different stages of dieback,
yellowing, browning, etc....
do they form new fans NOW, or in the fall-winter-spring before bloom?
Certainly not during summer dormancy?
Gosh I wish I could remember this.
