Blue ribbons are in the hands of the 'beholder,' i.e., the judge.
Some will reward a blue with one flower open and one side branch. Others
will count every bud. One judge in our area is called 'the bud counter
lady,' and some prefer not to have her judge because her counting holds
up the opening of the show. But, she is just doing her job. It is always
interesting to watch the judging panels at work. Some can zip through a
row of tables, while others take eons to complete.
