Hi Walter....

This is what we do in Region 2 for new members - first of all, everyone who
joins gets a welcome letter and a handbook called "Everything you wanted to
know about irises but were afraid to ask" which just describes our programs
and the members relationship to AIS, the Region and the local clubs... in
friendly (I hope) language. They also get a humorous Reg. 4 article with
lots of cultural information.

In our local club (because we are able), we offer each new member 3 irises
for joining! They can ONLY get their irises by coming to our sale. At the
sale we either have special pre-requested irises bagged and labeled for
them... or we allow them to choose from the tables - no restriction.

It's our philosophy that by joining an iris club, you are expressing a
certain level of desire to learn - we we want to foster that by making sure
you start with some great irises!

SO... I can't believe an RVP could make the kind of generous offer you
propose - but certainly many individual clubs could offer irises to welcome a
new member.
