I have seen ants do this before, and only on pods that were relatively close
to the ground. They usually destroy the seeds in the section of the hole
but the other two sections usually are fine. There is also a borrowing type
of bug that I haven't been able to indentify that will burrow and coccoon
inside the seed pod. Most of the seeds will be fine in this case unless the

Possibly the work of an iris weevil? When harvesting 50 plus pods a couple
of mine would develop such holes. At harvest time you will find a 'worm'
busily eating the seed in the occupied chamber. (I only have three pods this
year! <sigh>)
Check pods daily after browning. They can split over night.
