Tell them you represent the ASPCP, and make up a fancy business card or
letterhead on your word processor. The Australian Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Plants.
Put it to them nicely. They can either control their destiny by selling
properly nourished (that means watering nursery stock), properly labeled
plants or the ASPCP will continue in its campaign to seek legislative
relief, and require nursery retailers to purchase the same nursery license
we growers are required to have, and thus face inspection and financial
penalties.
We had a situation in a local park in which 4x4 vehicles were getting in
and trashing the place. The sole active Sierra Club member in the region at
that time (now there's an active chapter doing a youth education program at
the same park), wrote a letter to the town board and carboned the media,
and they were absolutely quaking with fear about facing this powerful
organization. Gates were erected. Hiking paths were built.
