We have had a marvellous iris year despite it being very early and most
groups blooming at once. At the moment, spurians and Louisianans are
flowering. In the latter case, I have three in flower. Dorthea K.
Williamson is becoming something of a weed. A blue which might be a
species but it is darker than most illustrations. Finally, a marvellous
cream yellow iris which flowered this weekend. It came to me from Bruce
Ricardson with the label Iris nelsoni, however, I can not find nelsoni
illustrated with that colour. I did find Dennis's website illustration
of a fulva cultivar in a very similar colour - may be I have fulva.
Does anyone know if nelsoni comes in cream yellow?
I should note that my Louisianans are not protected in anyway during our
winters - in other words, they are far hardier than the people say.
Ian, in Ottawa where he is planning an 11 botanic garden trip from
Ottawa - San Francisco - Vancouver - Calgary. Unfortunately, all after
the iris season.
