Dear Pat:
I had a similiar situation with one bed. My teenage daughter let her
two dogs roam my back yard overnight (dogs weren't allowed in there). This
was about 3 weeks before bloom season . The dogs layed down on the iris,
crushing everything that had been previously upright. When I discovered
the desctruction, I was heartbroken, but there was nothing I could do. So
I simply removed any completely broken stalks and foliage, leaving the rest
of the foliage to lie on the ground. I continued the watering schedule as
normal, trimmed off the brown leaves late in the year, and 12 months later,
the following year, they came back as normal.
