Don't hold your breath waiting for DC to make a clump <G>. That's one
of the things it doesn't do very well.

I haven't done any serious note-taking (yet), but I suspect that one of
the differences among cultivars that affects how well they perform here
in response to drought is root morphology. I've noticed that some have
enormous fleshy roots that go down towards Jan's house in Australia,
some have shorter roots with lots of fine roots, some have mostly long
roots with furry patches of fine roots near the surface. I haven't been
paying enough attention to this to have noticed how much of these
rooting patterns are cultivar specific, how much is related to growing
season (weather), how much to time of year (most plants have a pretty
fast turnover of smaller roots), & how much culture (organic matter,
phosphorus, trace elements (esp. boron).

Anybody have any observations about roots to share?

much need 2+ inches of rain the last few days. Probably still dry below
the surface.
