RE: Re: OT-CHAT: international list - not!

The point here is that your gardening comments/problems/questions are put
into context by supplying your geographical location in a form that can be
easily understood by anyone, anywhere. By putting the writers comments into
this geographic/climatic context it is helpful to the reader to understand
the related experiences, provide a more correct answer to a problem etc.
Also it's just nice to know who is from where.

I cannot understand why this is seen as such a problem to do on this list.
As has been pointed out, supplying abbreviations for your city that are at
best very local and using US postal code two letter state symbols for
example just do not do the job of conveying helpful geographic/climatic
information to listers in other parts of the world such as Australia, Europe
etc..

We do not want or need your detailed street address, postal code etc BUT a
line with your city and state/province/country spelled out fully is not a
big deal to do. It can easily be automated to add to the bottom of each
outgoing e-mail as so-called "signature lineage". Check your own e-mail
particular e-mail program to see how to do this. (even free web e-mail such
as Hotmail have this simple capability)
